Thursday Throwback: Bell Bottom Blues

"Bell Bottom Blues," featured on Derek and the Dominos 1970 release Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs, is by far my favorite Clapton tune. Though Layla... also featured the famous sound of Duane Allman's Les Paul guitar (check out "Nobody Knows You When You're Down and Out" - you'll recognize it immediately), "Bell Bottom Blues" features Clapton playing both the lead and rhythm guitar parts. It is rumored that the song was written about Pattie Boyd, former wife of George Harrison and Clapton. Boyd was also the inspiration for Harrison's "Something," "I Need You," and "Isn't it a Pity." Clapton also wrote "Layla" and "Wonderful Tonight" with Pattie in mind - quite the collection of tunes for Ms. Boyd!
